RECURRENT TRAINING
Recurrent training in multi engine airplanes is a must!!
I recently talked to someone who's plan of attack if the engine quits,
on takeoff, is "I will just retard both throttles and hope for the
best".
I do not like those odds!!
If you are current and
confident then in most situations you should be able to get the plane
back to the runway. If you are not doing your recurrent training in a
plane or a full motion simulator then why bother! If the instructor is
not surprising you with the engine out (either simulated or total
shutdown) then again why bother!
Most of us can not afford the full motion simulator time and most multi
engine owners do not want their engines manipulated in a manner that is
realistic concerning engine outs.
So
what do you do?
Well I am a professional Flight Instructor with over 7500 hrs.,
over 1200 multi hrs., and almost 1000 hrs. in N507TH, a Seneca 1 which
I am very comfortable
flying. I do surprise my students with engine
outs, in all phases of flight, both simulated and total shutdowns.
When, if ever, have you had the power abruptly retarded on climb out?
When, if ever, have you feathered an engine, secured that engine, and
then restarted that engine? Well I do all of those things and I do them
a lot. I have had almost 60 multi engine students receive ratings in
the past 2 years with only 2 failures.
$1300
includes
- 5 hr. dual in a Seneca 1 with IFR GPS
- Unlimited ground school
- Housing
- We can sign this off as a biennial or Instrument
proficiency
- Fly or drive in and enjoy the lakes of Minnesota
(frozen or otherwise)
- May be you would like to add an additional rating while
you are here. In most instances the only additional costs would be the
examiner fees and cost of the airplane for the check ride.
